What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think about making a Will?
Chances are it’s all pretty dire – expensive, time-consuming and not a topic you want to ponder for too long. Well you’re not alone, these reasons and more are why 97% of UK adults haven’t got an up-to-date Will. The problem is that the consequences of dying without one can be pretty dire too.
Something has to change and one of the latest players in the Will writing market is going all out to change more than just the process. Farewill started in 2017 and has made quite an impact since then. In under two years they went from start-up to the UK’s number one Will writer, so they must be doing something right.
One thing that’s very evident from Farewill’s website is the change in how the topic of Wills and death is discussed. They tackle it head on and frame a Will as a solution for life as much as death.
Why Consider Farewill?
- Easy to use with simple, jargon free questions
- Try the process and fill out your Will details for free
- Possible to complete the process in just 15 minutes
- All Wills checked by a legal expert
- Update your Will any time (free for 12 months then £10 a year)
- Responsive live chat support available 7 days per week
- Rated ‘Excellent’ in customer reviews
Who It’s For
Like most online Will services, Farewill is suitable for anyone over eighteen who is resident in England or Wales with a straightforward estate. If you have more complex requirements then you might benefit from personalised legal advice. If that’s the case and you want to save time and money consulting a Solicitor, another online option is Expert Answers.
How It Works
The process is similar to many other online Will services and begins with a series of simple multiple choice questions.
- Create a free account so your responses can be saved and you can track progress
- Answer questions about your circumstances and wishes
- Make payment
- Wait for your Will to be checked by a legal expert
- After checking you can download and print your finished Will
- Sign your Will in the presence of two witnesses to make it legally binding
What I Like

- Simple, slick and east to use
- Great support if you need it
- Low-cost option for unlimited updates
The Farewill experience is very different to any other Will writing website we’ve reviewed so far. It’s obvious that a lot of work has gone into using the latest Legal Technology and removing any points of friction in the whole process. It’s also nice that you can try the full question wizard path before having to make any payment and save your progress for completion at a later time. Plus there’s a live chat option right in your browser should you get stuck at any point and need help from support who feature in many of the positive customer reviews (more about that below).
While it’s true that the initial Farewill service is pricey, their options for updating your Will are very competitive at just £10 a year after the first 12 months. For that you get unlimited updates as and when your circumstances require a change to your wishes. You can opt out of this annual charge but you’ll need to pay the full price should you need to update the original Will.
What I Don’t Like

- The price
- No guarantee
If price is one of the main reasons you haven’t sorted your Will yet, then Farewill might not rank too highly as at £100 for a single Will and £160 for couples, they are the most expensive online option we’ve reviewed so far. However, if you’re prepared to do a little digging, discount codes are available that can bring those prices down.
There’s also no obvious money-back guarantee provided although they have stated “If it turns out we’re not right for you after all when we check your Will, we’ll refund you in full” and this is reflected in Farewill’s response to the small number of negative reviews left by customers on Trustpilot.
Farewill vs Ten Minute Will
One of the biggest differences between Farewill and other similar services is that they are a technology company with a goal of transforming the Will writing process rather than a Will company with an online presence. As such, as a company, they aren’t a member of any of the usual legal or Will writing associations though they state that their legal experts are members of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
Our highest rated online Will service is currently Ten Minute Will. In many ways, they are very similar. Both use an online questionnaire wizard to record your wishes and both ensure your Will is checked by an expert before it’s issued to you. Having said that, Farewill is the UK’s number one Will writer for a reason, and it’s the execution of their website and online process that really sets them apart from the competition. On the flip side though, there’s a big difference in price too, £29.99 +vat from Ten Minute Will vs £100 from Farewill. Fortunately, both services let you try the process before you have to pay any money and Farewill do have occasional special offers as mentioned below.
Alternatives
If you need or prefer advice from a legal professional, a cheaper and more convenient alternative to the traditional Solicitor route is Expert Answers. This is a purely online option which makes it easy to connect with a Wills and Estates Solicitor instantly online at a fraction of the normal cost.
If you’re sold on the benefits of an online Will writing service, most work in a similar way and are based around a simple questionnaire or wizard process. The main differences between the most popular providers are the level of professional checking and number of updates allowed as your Will as circumstances change. We have currently reviewed the following services that can produce your Will online in combination with checking by a Will expert:
- GlossLegal – £34.95 / Rated 8.3
- Legal Wills – £24.95 / Rated 8.1
- Ten Minute Will – £29.99 +vat / Rated 8.5
- Beyond Life – £90 / Rated 9.0
Customer Reviews: 4.9/5
At the time of writing, there are 14,750 Farewill reviews written by verified customers on Trustpilot resulting in a 4.9/5 or ‘Excellent’ rating. A huge 98% of the reviews gave Farewill a 4 or 5 star rating.
A majority of the comments left by reviewers mention how quick and easy the process is with any support questions answered within minutes by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Reading through the ten ‘Bad’ rated reviews, most seem to be caused by technical problems such as service emails getting lost in spam folders and misunderstandings about cash back deals and coupons. It’s worth noting that every negative review has received a swift and specific response from Farewill offering an apology or action to resolve the matter.
Farewill Cost: How To Get it Cheaper
Although the standard price for a Farewill Will is higher than most of their competitors at £100, there are discount codes available from time to time. If you’re prepared to wait until a discount code is released, you can save anywhere from 10%-50% depending upon the time of year. The best place to get these is via the Farewill Facebook page.
Final Opinion
Farewill is certainly a breath of fresh air in the Will writing market. They’re a competent and professional solution to getting your last Will and Testament done, with thousands of satisfied customers to prove it. If your estate and family circumstances are not complicated and you’re not put off by the higher cost, then Farewill is a fast and efficient solution to trust with your final wishes.
Take their Will writing wizard for a test drive and you might be able to tick ‘get a Will done’ off your to do list.
