In This Review
Making a Will isn’t high on most peoples to-do list which is why 60% of us haven’t got around to writing one.
If you were to ask some of those 60% why they haven’t got a Will you’d probably hear a mix of cost, time and plain old apathy as the reasons for putting it off.
All those reasons and more would be valid excuses twenty years ago, but today you can get your Will sorted quicker than it takes your Friday night takeaway to arrive. Of course, you should put a bit more thought into your Will than your weekly curry, but it can be that easy to remove the risks of dying without a Will from your family’s future.
One of the more recent innovators in the UK Will market is Beyond, a startup in 2015 they now offer a range of online services designed to make it easy to ensure that all you leave behind are happy memories.

Why Consider Beyond?
- Well designed questionnaire process that saves time and is free to try
- All Wills double checked by legal experts for peace of mind
- Free National Will Registration worth £30
- Free unlimited updates for 12 months then just £10 a year but this is optional
An important distinction when considering an online Will service is it’s availability and relevance after your death. The whole point of making a Will is to ensure your wishes are carried out, but if your loved ones and Executors can’t find your Will or if it’s out of date, then your original intention for who should get what could be lost.
Beyond have though of this too – by offering free National Will Registration, storage and unlimited updates, your Will should be easy to keep updated and crucially, easy to find even if you forget where it is.
Who It’s For
Like any UK will writing service, the Beyond Will process is suitable for anyone over eighteen who lives in England or Wales with a straightforward estate. If you need legal advice or have assets outside the UK, then the standard online service won’t be able to create your Will. However, Beyond can still offer advice and personalised quote from their Complex Will Team.
How It Works

The Beyond process is based around a well designed questionnaire which starts without needing an account or payment details. After two screens of basic questions designed to determine if the service is suitable for your needs, you’ll be asked to create a free account so your responses can be saved and continued later should you need to take a pause.
From this point, the questionnaire is divided into five sections that will form the basic instructions of your finished Will.
- Add yours and your family’s details
- Decide who gets what and how much
- Choose your Executors (those who will carry out your wishes)
- Add your assets (bank accounts, insurance, pensions etc)
- Review, pay and download your Will
After reviewing and paying for your Will, it’s immediately available for download but the service doesn’t finish there. Your Will is checked by a legal expert within three days who will contact you if anything needs further attention.
All that’s required to make your Will legally binding is to follow the simple instructions included with your Will which basically require you to print it, check it and sign it in the presence of two witnesses.
What I Like

- Quick and hassle free process
- Every Will checked by legal experts
- Free National Will Registration (worth £30)
- Try for free and only pay when you print your Will
- Access to valuable optional extras for just £10 p.a which can make your Will easy to update and easy to find when the time comes
What really impresses about Beyond is that they’ve thought about more than just getting your Will done. Sure their online process is super simple and can get a Will in your hands in minutes, but what happens when the time finally comes for your family and executors to sort out your affairs? Will they be able to find your Will and how likely is it to be up to date or even relevant?
These are real concerns that your loved ones could face and highlight how choosing the right Will writer can make all the difference when the time comes to carry out your final wishes.
What I Don’t Like

- Price
- No money-back guarantee
- Including Beyond as an Executor option without declaring the cost
Although price was a concern in our Farewill review, I have to say that I’m more reluctant to list the £90 cost of a single Will from Beyond as a negative given the value of the additional extras they offer. Having said that, it is triple the cost of some online Will writers we have reviewed so stays on my list of ‘don’t likes’.
More concerning is the option to choose Beyond as an Executor for your Will without stating the cost. At the time of writing this review, Beyond’s Executor service has a fixed fee cost starting at £495 and rises depending on the size of your estate. While a professional Executor service can offer some valuable benefits for your family at a difficult time, the pricing should be more transparent with typical fee information at the point of sale.
Beyond Compared to Farewill
Until this review was published, Farewill was our highest rated Will writing service and has many similarities with Beyond. In fact their pricing is almost identical and the online process is very similar too. So where do these two online Will writers differ?
- Beyond Wills include National Will Registration (normally £30)
- Beyond couple Wills are £135 compared to Farewill’s £140
- Pay the annual £10 subscription and you get Will storage in addition to unlimited updates with Beyond. Farewill only offer unlimited updates with their £10 subscription service.
Alternatives
If you’re looking for alternatives to Beyond that offer more value for less than £100, then the list would be very short. Beyond is our current highest rated Will writing service because it packs so much in for a reasonable £90 whilst still saving you time and money compared to the traditional Solicitor option.
If £90 is more than you want to pay for a Will then you have plenty of cheaper options such as Ten Minute Will, Legal Wills or Gloss Legal who all work in a similar way but offer a more basic service than Beyond.
If price is putting you off considering Beyond, you can get up to 36% cashback on their Wills via Quidco and TopCashback. See below for more details.
What Beyond Customers Say In Reviews: 4.7/5

The bulk of online customer reviews for Beyond are available on Trustpilot where a combined total of 973 customers have given the service an ‘Excellent’ rating and TrustScore of 4.7 out of 5.
Of the 973 reviews 96% were positive and refer to the service as “quick”, “east to use” and “convenient” with very responsive support available via phone and live chat.
Looking at the fourteen average or negative reviews or 4%, two were referring to the funeral plan directory and the other four were a combination of complaints about not being able to complete the Will questionnaire or appeared to have misunderstood how the service works.
- “Very quick”
- “Easy to use”
- “Modern way to write a Will”
Most of the positive comments left by reviewers mention how ‘quick’ and ‘easy to use’ the Will service is with many also commenting on how much time and money they saved by not having to use a Solicitor.
Another common point of praise was how helpful the live online chat and telephone advice line was at resolving basic questions or concerns.
- “Could have been better”
- “Could not enter all my information”
- “Just a funeral broker”
Of the thirty three customers leaving poor, bad or average ratings, comments were largely focused on issues around the lack of updates on Will storage or registration and the funeral plan and directors service.
Others mentioned problems filling out the questionnaire and feeling pressured to take out a funeral plan, although replies from Beyond staff confirmed that this isn’t required.
Common Questions About Beyond Wills
Q. What type of Wills does the Beyond service make?
The online Will maker also has the option of a couples Will which is actually two individual Wills at a discounted price but with sections that match where you agree on the same instructions for things like guardianship of pets or children.
The Beyond online Will service isn’t designed for large or complex estates where trusts, business partnerships or tax planning are involved. However, Beyond do say they can provide quotes for this type of Will.
Q.What is a Couples Will?
Q. What does Beyond’s online Will subscription service include?
Q. Where will Beyond keep my Will if I subscribe?
Pricing & Purchase: How To Get Your Beyond Will Cheaper
Beyond already offers good value for money in my opinion but it is possible to get your Will up to 36.75% cheaper by using a cashback site such as Quidco or TopCashback. Although you’ll have to wait a few months to get your cashback, once you do, the cost of a single Will is reduced to £57 and a couples Will to £85 making Beyond a no brainer.
Final Opinion
Like our previous favourite Farewill, Beyond have done a brilliant job of making the initial Will writing process quick and easy. Where Beyond have excelled though is by considering what happens after you’ve completed your Will. By including National Will Registration, storage and unlimited updates, they’ve made keeping your Will relevant and simple to find as easy as drafting it in the first place.
